Earth Leakage
Maintained isolation is maintained safety
Without Earth Insulation Monitoring, floating IT systems are just a false sense of security for your personnel and system.
Earth Leakage Detection keeps your site and personnel safe
Unearthed IT systems provide safety and security by allowing a first fault to occur without it immediately causing system failure, potential asset damage and risk of personnel injury/death. However, if this first break in insulation goes unnoticed and isn’t repaired then any subsequent break in insulation will immediately complete the circuit with earth; potentially causing catastrophic damage to any asset or life connected to the circuit at that second.
It is for this reason that Earth Insulation Monitoring is paramount for the safety of your rail system.
Earth Leakage Detector
The ELD is MRD’s flagship product.
Despite all the safety designed into floating IT systems, failures can and do occur. ELD acts as a constant watchdog, alerting you to any leakage from your busbars into earth so that they can be fixed before a second short brings down your system or, even worse, puts a life at risk.
Without Earth Insulation Monitoring, floating IT systems are just a false sense of security for your personnel and system.

EarthSense Monitor
The EarthSense Monitor (ESM) is the newer, smaller, faster and more accurate alternative to the ELD.
Despite all the safety designed into floating IT systems, failures can and do occur. ESM acts as a constant watchdog, alerting you to any leakage from your busbars into earth so that they can be fixed before a second short brings down your system or, even worse, puts a life at risk.

EarthLogger
The EarthLogger is a 4 channel, logging version of the ESM/ELD, allowing you to monitor your whole site with one logger and view the real-time and historical data remotely from an embedded webserver.
Despite all the safety designed into floating IT systems, failures can and do occur. EarthLogger acts as a constant watchdog, alerting you to any leakage from your busbars into earth so that they can be fixed before a second short brings down your system or, even worse, puts a life at risk.

FAQ
The supply voltage is the voltage needed to power the ESM1/ELD/Earthlogger. This is specific, and depending on the unit can either be AC or DC. The part numbers for each device represent this.
The monitored voltage is the busbar which can be monitored. All MRD earth leakage devices can monitor both AC or DC busbars.
The values used for alarm or warning should be dependent on the specifications in use for each particular setup. MRD’s range of Earth Leakage Detectors use earth leakage as a resistance value. To convert from an earth leakage current, use ohms law, where the voltage is the voltage of the busbar in use.
A separate test earth connection allows the unit to prove the earth connection when performing a self-test. If the two earths are connected together, this bypasses this test and means the earth connection is never tested.
